Thrift Shop: Sometimes One Man's Trash is Just That...

Dear Clear Lake: Happy Earth Day, Happy Spring, and thank you for your help!

Village Clean Up Day is Saturday, April 29, from 8 a.m. to Noon. And, the Township of Clear Lake's Cleanup Day is Saturday, May 15, from 8 a.m. to Noon. What better time to clear out your clutter and downsize?! Your friendly neighborhood Old School Thrift Shop would like to remind you that we gladly accept donations! HOWEVER, please remember that donating broken, dirty and unusable items makes it extra hard for our wonderful volunteers to keep up! Right now, I'm sorry to say we are DROWNING in donations! Why? Simply put, it's because we get so many things that are on our "do not donate" list.

The thrift store accepts new and GENTLY used, CLEAN items in working condition. We sincerely appreciate our community's generosity, but in some cases we have to say "no thank you" to certain items such as non-recyclable and hazardous materials, things that cost more to repair or refurbish than its value, and things that are dirty, broken or otherwise unusable. We are overwhelmed and understaffed and really need your help to keep our donations in check. It costs us so much when people dump things here.

How can you help? Please only donate things that we accept. We sincerely appreciate your help in streamlining donations so that we can continue to create the best thrift experience for our shoppers! There's a full list of things we cannot accept on our website (clacc.org) and also posted by the donation bin inside Door #1 at the Clear Lake Area Community Center.
