The Clear Lake Area Community Center (CLACC.org) planned to decorate for the holidays. So, we recruited volunteers to help and things got a little out of hand!
Rather than simply throw up some lights and garland, it was noted that the dining room could use a refresh. On the heels of Stone Creek's amazing transformation of the North stairway landing, everyone seems to be in the renovating spirit. So, under the leadership of volunteer, Peg Smith, it was decided that it was time to repaint the dining room. Ray Cress generously offered to buy the paint at Clear Lake True Value, and this team of volunteers brought in their own painting gear, rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
Special thanks to our wonderful volunteers; Ray Cress, Peg Smith, Lori DeBoer, Dick Smith, Warren DeBoer, (not pictured, Wendy Schoggins).
On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, a group of fun, hardworking volunteers got together in the dining room to paint.
First up were color choices. Peg suggested that we go with a pallet which wasn't too far from the existing color. The goal was to refresh, brighten, and create a neutral space that the community could enter and make their own. After all, the dining room is available for rent for parties large and small. It seats up to 120 people!
As you can see from the "after" photos, the colors are very similar but a bit more modern and neutral. A few additional days of painting, and the dining room was refreshed and ready for holiday decor. Peggy Smith created one-of-a-kind pieces such as a gorgeous swag for the newly painted fireplace, and a matching wreath right above it. It's not easy to capture how dramatic this transformation has been. We shared more pictures on our Facebook page here.
Shortly after the new year, we'll reconvene and update the decor for Spring!

The Clear Lake Area Community Center (CLACC.org) is located at the former Clear Lake High School building. Built in 1922, this historic building now houses dozens of local businesses including a fitness center, gymnastics, ballet and a dance studio, many local artisans, several non-profit organizations, a rich grouping of art- and business-endeavors, along with much-needed community services. CLACC is an incubator for small businesses and startups, offering very reasonable rent, utilities and marketing assistance. Additionally, it serves the community as a place to gather, with a diversity of areas for large wedding receptions, banquets, anniversary parties, lock-ins, charity dinners, meeting rooms, office spaces, retail shop spaces, and a licensed, commercial kitchen.
