The Clear Lake Area Community Center, Inc. (CLACC) is grateful to the Fred C. and Katherine B. Andersen Foundation of Bayport, MN for awarding a $35,000 grant to CLACC. Established in1959, the foundation follows its core value that charitable grant making advances and builds thriving communities in the area it serves. The Fred C. and Katherine B. Andersen Foundation primarily serves St. Croix Valley communities in Polk, St. Croix and Pierce counties in Wisconsin and Washington and eastern Ramsey counties in Minnesota.
The $35,000 grant will be applied toward a major HVAC system upgrade at the community center. The upgrade includes replacing the less-than-reliable1950s-era heating system in the gymnasium wing of the old school with energy-efficient heating and cooling systems. Electrical upgrades will also be required for the new systems. Because the total cost of these upgrades will exceed $140,000, additional funding is being sought for the project.
This is just one of many building improvements for which the CLACC Grant Committee continues to seek funding. Even though Phase 1 of the roof replacement project is completed, and work has started on the partially grant-funded asbestos abatement project, there are many other needs to keep our 102-year old building in good stead. Plus, the list only grows.
Currently identified needs include the roof replacement-phase 2 (replacing another portion of a 30 year old roof), upgrading the Event Center stage to include lighting and sound systems, constructing a donation center for the Old School Thrift Shop, installing a back-up boiler for another section of the heating system, replacing windows in the gymnasium lobby, expanding and resurfacing the parking lot, and upgrading equipment in the commercial kitchen.
CLACC is thankful for the continued community support it receives. Monetary donations are always welcomed. In addition, major gifts such as stocks and bonds, vehicles, and real estate are also appreciated. All donations are tax deductible because CLACC is a 501c3 organization.
