The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) has awarded a Site Assessment Grant (SAG) to the Clear Lake Area Community Center (CLACC) for $148,000, or 80% of the cost of asbestos abatement. CLACC has long been seeking financial aid opportunities to clear the old boiler room of asbestos. While grants were available for asbestos abatement associated with demolishment of a building, none were previously available for buildings that were to remain in use.
Last fall WEDC modified its grant requirements for a brief period to include buildings like our community center. CLACC moved forward and partnered with the Village of Clear Lake to apply for this one-of-a-kind funding opportunity.
CLACC is very grateful to WEDC and their SAG program for this grant. Plans are underway to begin this sizeable project in the fall. In order to meet grant stipulations, all work must be completed by June 30, 2025.
The CLACC Grant Committee continues to seek grants for several other large projects for this 102 year old building. As stated in an earlier Clear Lake Chronicle article, the capital improvements in need of financial support include upgrading the HVAC system, replacing a roof that is over 30 years old, upgrading the Event Center stage to include lighting and sound systems, constructing a donation center for the Old School Thrift Shop, expanding and resurfacing the parking lot, and upgrading appliances in the commercial kitchen.
CLACC is thankful for the continued community support it receives. Monetary donations are always appreciated. In addition, major gifts such as stocks and bonds, vehicles, and real estate are also accepted. All donations are tax deductible and will make all the difference in preserving our historic community center. For more information on donating, contact the center at 715-263-2233 or check out the website at clacc.org and CLACC’s Facebook page, FB.com/clacc.org.
